According to a research conducted by Fuji Keizai Group, the 2018 market of function-oriented food (including health foods and series supplements) will be estimated at JPY931.7 billion, which is an increase of 2% from 2017. Categories related to diet, green-charge and beauty have shown strong sales. The diet market is estimated at JPY153.6 billion, showing a 5% increase from 2017. The increase in protein-supply diet and suppression and combustion system diet has led to the market expansion. In the green-charge category, as a vegetable replacement, aojiru such as kale and barley grass, chlorella, spirulina and euglena are targeted components. Improving the recognition of euglena has pushed the green-charge market up by 4.%, at JPY95.7 billion.
